What is a Knee Fracture?
A knee fracture occurs when bones in the knee joint crack. A knee fracture can vary in severity, from a bend or small crack in the bone to the bone breaking or shattering completely.
What Causes a Knee Fracture?
A fractured knee may be caused by:
- Auto accidents
- Sports injuries
- Direct contact to the knee
- Falling
Knee Fracture Symptoms
Symptoms of a fractured knee may include:
- Knee pain that also includes swelling, bruising or tenderness immediately after the injury
- Knee pain that occurs when the knee is touched
- Knee pain that prevents someone from putting weight on the leg with the affected knee
- Difficulties bending the knee
- Knee pain that gets worse when moving
- Muscle spasms
- A change in leg shape
